Man o man! heroescon was fun! I want to thank Dustin Harbin for hosting the event and bringing the hugs! no one loves more than this guy. and he did me a super duper solid by letting me have a table at indie island.. If It’s at all possible I will be very grateful to be back next year. I will be doing a few recap comics that I will hope to post on twitter in the future so be on the look out for those. In the meantime take a look at the latest page of real cane sugar.. in my rush to make enough pages for a full third book of real cane sugar I’ve yet to make a new page for next week.. OH BUT REST ASSURED! there will be something to look at this week and the next! I promise.

I plan to try and make enough pages for 1.5 comics in time for SPX… (I won’t but oh well.) actually I want to try and have a little something that’s not real cane sugar just so someone who just wants to buy one book can have.. also maybe a gag book.. I love gag books.

SO! Did you have a good Memorial Day? I did. I spent it printing REAL CANE SUGAR EPISODE 3 for all of you kids to thumb through and scrutinize with scorn. If  you are going to be in the Charlotte area this weekend you should totally make a trip to downtown and in exchange for 10 dollars you get the privelage to buy all of the freshest newest most differentest comics you can get your greasy paws on. Joel Watson of http://hijinksensue.com/ made a map to help you find all of the most best of webcomicers around. I felt there was something that it needed, though. So I decided to pull out my precision instruments and edit it a bit so it can also be used for you, my adoring fans, to find me!!

(WHHHHAAAATTT!!!)  Holy cow! this is going to be some weekend! I’m going to say I would never have gotten such a primo location if it wasn’t for my main man Evan “the Dahminator” Dahm and the exceptionally generous Dustin Harbin!! (cartoonist extraordinaire!) I owe both these guys quite a bit and you guys should show your love too buy making sure you come and find them and give their stuff a try! I like it.. I’m going to sink my eyes into that big ol news paper thingie d.harb made the moment I get a chance and you should too!

this is going to be one fun weekend.. I strongly encourage anyone who goes to scope out the WHOLE convention because there’s quite a few guys that you don’t want to miss in the small press area as well. Heck, how are you going to discover new stuff if you don’t get out and see the whole convention?

After HeroesCon is over I’m probably going to try and set up an online store or an etsy or something so I can maybe sell these hardcopys that I make for shows. if you’re interested let me know in the comments below the more response I get the faster I’ll hop to it!

Anyway, this is the first new page I’ve posted since I got back from Fanaticon in Asheville, NC. That was one hell of a con and I hope that if you’re a returning visitor to my site then welcome! Thank you for taking your time to so much as read my comic even if you skip all the newsposts! please be sure to leave comments about the books I sold you, or if there’s any pages you feel could communicate better then let me know. My hope with this site is to provide premium and unique comic entertainment that can be read and then passed from friend to friend without losing relevence.. can I do it? man I hope.

Speaking of conventions, who is going to HEROESCON!?? this is going to be one hell of a show and a lot of my favorite online comics people are going to be there. Pretty darn sweet, I’d say. You definitely need to get your butt to charlotte the first weekend of June and buy yourself at least one 10 dollar admission to Heroes and say hi to me or I’ll just sit there doodling all by myself… high school all over again. So, come out! See me! or See Kate Beaton! EVAN DAHM’S THERE TOO!! SO WILL MEREDITH GRAN (WHAAAAT?!) And the amazing illustrator and podcaster FOOOOOD-OOOONE! it’s gonna be balls to the wall. easily.

So, Fanaticon was a fun time. I got to meet a lot of cool people who were very nice to me and gave me money. I hope to see some of you again at HeroesCon. The people I met were easily the best part of Fanaticon. my buddy’s Josh Latta and Evan Dahm strolled by the table more than once and asked how I was doing and I was often looking from my table to see how they were doing, bros gotta look out for one another and such. After hard days work Evan and Lela organized a dinner with some cool kids from around Asheville. Raven and Steph (I think it was steph.. it was steph, right? (she makes awesome buttons)), Brent and Tizi (who gave me a copy of their first comic ever called Mickey’s First Day, a comic about hairstyling told from experience) and Hope (woooo!) and Brian (holy shiiiit!!) along with my brother and myself had a delicious meal from Asheville Pizza and Brewery. As the dinner wore on folks started having to head home unitl it was me, Evan, Lela, Raven and Steph in the parking lot looking at originals and trading buttons and books and so on.. I was really tired and had to keep slapping myself to stay awake while on the way to my Bro’s house where I crashed! 

The nice thing about having a table and selling books is that I’m not buying every book I see. The books I did get were quite enjoyable I started with Josh Latta’s “A Rabbit in King Arthur’s Food Court” which is a funny little Carl Barks inspired comic featuring Rashy Rabbit, a character that I’ve enjoyed watching evolve for the past 3 years. After that was the Fast Food Fued by Brad McGinty which was simply delightful, the art massages the eyes and the humor tickles the funny bone. I read all of Chiggers in one sitting and loooved it.. Any kid who’s been to any camp will have no trouble identifying with it. I’m going to be looking at a lot more books that could easily capture the imaginations of younger audiences while still being good and cats like Hope Larson and Aaron Renier are proof positive that it’s possibly to make great stuff for all ages without talking down to them or sugar coating stuff.  Come back in a little bit when I start posting pages of real cane sugar so I can have a THIRD comic to sell at heroes!! I WILL HAVE 3 WHOLE COMICS for sale at heroes.. you need to have more than one comic for your first heroes con, fellas! Even if just one of you guys who read this site come out it will be AWESOME! we’ll party, it’ll be great.

HEY KIDS! it’s 4 AM here in bishopville, south carolina. after like a 5 hour nap I got up and just started working on this page that’s been sitting waiting to be finished and now here it is. We’re almost done with this arc and after doing 3 “episodes” of RCS I’ve started to realize I need to do better planning if I hope to make the production of this comic a little less painful. Anyway, the joke is that Manny poored all that dirty water into the sink for washing the dishes which has to stay clean, ESPECIALLY if there’s dishes in there. D.Mar specifically said the sink in the closet, which you can see in the previous pages, I think it’s pretty subtle but the whole thing gave me a chance to better build D.Mars and make it a little more tangible in the readers mind or some shit. I gotta tell ya, making a comic that you think is good while also working a 32 hour a week job is still about the same as having two jobs (BUT WITH HALF THE INCOME!!!! OH BOY!) but that’s enough complaining for me, let’s keep focused on fun and enjoyable things.

I think I can still do buttons.. but stickers will probably have to wait til heroescon (WHICH ME AND MY BUDDY EVAN WILL ALSO ATTEND!) 

oh and finally, my Sheriff got arrested for Federal Drug Trafficking charges go read the article and join me and the rest of my town as we bid a fond farewell to our friend, EJ. Everyone said he was crooked but they just kept voting him in, anyway. I dunno. Let’s see what will happen after this.

I don’t think manny is as able to follow his own advice as he thinks he is. but that’s the nature of folk sometime, pointing out splinters in someone’s eye when you got a whole wedge in yours. Oh I think I just quoted the bible. How about that. I made this page while I was coming down with some kind of shitty headcold. what really sucks is I have to work tomorrow.

I finished this page the day after Guru passed away. It really sucks. I didn’t start getting into rap music until last year and now that I just started listening to some more Gang Starr I hear about this. I wish I had an ill guru track to play but I don’t know gang starr as well as my other faves, so if you’re reading this and wanna leave a suggestion just drop a youtube link and I’ll be happy to hear your fave Gang Starr tracks. Hell even if it uses a Gang Starr sample it’ll count in my book. Ok, now then I need to rest my eyes and get back to work now. ugh.

So, here’s the next page of my comic. Manny’s not being random he’s refering to those candies that you can get in those little ten cent machines in the grocery store… but not really… goldschlager is more like some kind of mouth wash.. or vanilla.. someone once gave me a bottle of vanilla to drink during a dance.. they told me it was scotch and I was like, “oh boy I’m gonna get tore up” so I drank the vanilla up but good…. now that I think about it kids shoulda been doing more substances in doug… they sure as hell did in my school. but they did it wrong.. cause we were all drunk off vanilla extract. what the fuck.
